Donations and Charitable Status

We have had a fabulous and generous response from so many of you. Thank you so much. Some of you may have noticed however that your cheques have not yet been banked. This is because we are still investigating the various options around setting up the Judi Meadows Memorial Fund as a registered charity. In general, we would prefer to avoid the responsibilities associated with administering a full-blown charity, and Amy’s work has brought her in touch with a woman who runs a foundation which has made donations towards similar causes to ours in the past. She has invited Amy to join as a trustee of her organisation and has offered to take JMMF under the wing of her existing charitable status. We are currently finalising the structure of this arrangement, whereby we can maintain the identity of the JMMF and keep control of the application of JMMF donations and funds. The benefit of this set-up will be that not only can we claim an additional 28% in tax rebate from the government (which in turn will go towards the research project) but the foundation in question has offered to match £1 for £1 what we raise up to a maximum of £20,000 … which would be fantastic! We expect to formalise this arrangement by the end of October when, of course, we will issue another update.
