TASC meeting

On Friday, we attended the The Alliance of Suicide Charities (TASC) first quarterly meeting of 2013. It was useful to receive updates from the other members on their current activities and future plans for this year. As an Alliance we have agreed that our key priorities are: reviewing progress with the implementation of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy, including lobbying local Directors of Public Health to undertake more meaningful suicide prevention work;  progressing the Call to Action; undertaking a review of current suicide prevention training provision; risk assessment; and modernising the Coroner’s system to ensure that there is  more systematic and consistent data collection and more appropriate involvement and support for bereaved families. Interesting presentations were provided by Professor David Gunnell of Bristol University, Douglas Hiscock the Network Manager of Health in Mind in Colchester and Ian Price a garden designer hoping to develop a mental health themed show garden at Hampton Court Flower Show.
