Improving Care for People who are at risk of suicide
JMMF have recently contributed to a one-day meeting to produce consensus statements and recommendations regarding priorities for the implementation of optimal suicide prevention strategies. The consensus panel members comprised researchers, voluntary organisations, statutory providers and families bereaved by suicide. We discussed what is the gap between what is happening on the ground and optimal prevention strategies and what can be done to bridge the gap in the areas of communication, assessment, organisational structure and training. A final consensus statement that has been approved by all participants has now been issued. It is intended to be used as an adjunct to the Government’s National Suicide Prevention Strategy.
